He is survived by: his spouse Heidi Bates of Bracebridge; his children, Scott Bates (Jennifer) and Kristina Bates (Harris Davidson); his grandchildren, Oliver, Alexander, Dylan and Jacob; and his siblings, Gerry Bates (Linda) and Margaret Khan (Habib).
