She was predeceased by: her parents, Stanley Hutchison and Eva Hutchison; and her husband Earl Alexander Lawton. She is survived by: her sisters, Margaret Johnson and Mary Hutchison; her children, Marlene Rantala (Jouko), Carolyn Lawton (late Art Appelberg) and Stan Lawton (Michele); and her grandsons, Eric Rantala (Ashley), Karl Rantala, Neil Rantala, Jordan Appelberg, Zach Lawton (Emma Biondi) and Alex Lawton (Taryn).

Donations have been entrusted to McKinlay Funeral Home, 459 St Clair Street, Chatham. Memorial donations can be made at the funeral home by cash or cheque payable to St. Andrew's Residence, funds received in memory of Rheta will be directed towards The Courtyard Enhancement Project.
