Morag Margaret Kennedy Obituary
Morag Margaret Kennedy was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She passed away at 85 on October 16 from injuries sustained in a car accident.
Morag was born December 22, 1937 in Glasgow, Scotland to Margaret and James McOrist. Morag's mother divorced and soon became a war bride to a Canadian soldier, Roy Johnson, great-great-grandson of Father of Confederation John M. Johnson. After the war, Morag emigrated to Canada with the family to settle in Miramichi, New Brunswick.
Morag cut her high school education short to help support the family working at Stedman's Department Store in Chatham, NB, working her way up to a position as manager. It was here that Morag, on a blind date, met a young Air Force private, James (Jim) Kennedy, who she would marry in 1962 and be together for 51 years.
Morag and Jim had their first son, Dan, in 1969 and Stephen a year later. Morag loved being a mother to her two sons and raised them, sometimes alone, while Jim was away on military duty.
Morag moved with her new family all over the Maritime provinces and even to Saskatchewan. There, with her boys mostly grown, she rejoined the workforce as a commissionaire at the Air Force base.
Morag's husband's final posting was to Trenton Air Force Base where they settled outside Foxboro. Morag then began work at Kelly's Pharmacy in Belleville where she loved helping the townspeople for over a decade.
Morag and Jim both finally retired to Truro, Nova Scotia in 2004. Their love of traveling over the years had them go to Germany, the UK and Australia.
With all her love, Morag nursed Jim through his final year's battle with cancer. After his passing, Morag returned to Belleville to be closer to her family.
Morag had a voracious love of reading, baked for everyone but herself, probably watched too much Coronation Street, enjoyed singing in the choir, bingo, crossword puzzles, going for walks, crafted ceramics, string art, and painting. She truly loved life.
Morag is survived by the other loves of her life, her sons Dan (Michelle) of London, ON, Stephen (Kim) of Bowmanville, and her granddaughters Meghan (Alex) and Akira. She is also survived by her sisters Dierdre (Bob), Vina (Gerald), Cora (Sandy) and Pearl (Joe), and her brother Bobby, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed by all.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Eastminster United Church, 432 Bridge St. E., Belleville.
A memorial service will be held at Eastminster United, on November 11 at 1pm and all are welcome.
