He was predeceased by: his father Charlie Nearing; and his brothers, Michael and Charles. He is survived by: his mother Marie Nearing; his wife Ingrid; his children, Elizabeth (Stephen), Loretta (Adam), Curtis (Anna), Haley and Nathon; his siblings, Loretta (Brian), Kim and Charlene (Craig); his grandchildren, Courtney, Connor, Isaac, Elijah, Bailey, Emmett, Mallory, Libby and Isabella; his mother-in-law Toos; his sister-in-law Patricia (Ryan); and his pet Charlie. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Donations in his memory may be made to the Nova Scotia Cancer Society.

“You were taken too soon Curtis. I remember when we were younger all the rides on your motorcycle, or watching you fix vehicles in your yard. You showed me how to drive a ski-doo at a young age. Years later you stayed with me in Toronto and we shared so many laughs. you were always the dare devil, the risk taker and that's how you lived your life. No matter where we were in this crazy world, we both knew we loved each other. I will cherish the memories, miss you always. Till we meet again.”
