Shirley Ann Boyd Obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mom Shirley Ann Alma Boyd (née smith) on Oct 2, 2022.
Shirley was born the 3rd of six children to Muriel Smith (née Robertson) and Edward Smith in Campbellton, New Brunswick. As a child, she loved the outdoors and she would frequently swim across the Restigouche River and hike the Sugar Loaf Mountain. As a young woman, she moved with her beloved sister Heather to Niagara Falls, where she worked at Bell Telephone. From there she went to live with Heather and her husband Don in Nova Scotia. Mom met our Dad, the late Kevin Joseph Boyd when Heather announced that Don was bringing a sailor home for dinner. Mom replied that she hated sailors and did not want to meet him. That was the one time mom did not keep her word. As fate would have it, mom married that sailor, moved to Ontario, had 6 children and well let's just say that the rest is history. Mom and Dad had a loving relationship and had many lifelong friends who enjoyed their many dinners and get togethers. Her specialty dish being ham, scalloped potatoes, coleslaw, baked beans and chocolate cake.
Mom loved to garden and was an avid reader who enjoyed true crime novels. She had the knack of figuring out who the criminal was way before the end of the novel. In her later years, mom went back to school and became a Personal Care Worker. Her selfless dedication to care giving was evident through her clients' testimonies.
Mom passed peacefully surrounded by her loved ones. She was predeceased by her husband Kevin Joseph Boyd, retired Sergeant with the Metro Toronto Police Department and is survived by her children Wayne (Maureen), Sean (Peta), Brenda (Joe), Robert (Heather), Chris (Michelle), Brad (Lindsay).
Nanny will be immensely missed by her 17 grandchildren, and 3 great grand children who were her greatest love and joy. We can rest assured that her spirit will live on in her kids and grandchildren. She will also be missed by her brother in-law Don, many nephews and nieces, her wonderful neighbours and her best friend June.
We will miss her candidness, humor and no nonsense attitude. Mom, like all good mom's, always had your back no matter what. Most of all, we will miss her love and devotion not only to her family but to all whom she liked (if you were so fortunate).
Special thanks and gratitude to Nurse Andriy and Nurse Robert.
As per mom's wishes, there will be a Private Service at a later date for her immediate family.
