Larry Bowen wrote a sympathy message

“We are deeply saddened by hearing of the passing of Dave. I (Larry) remember delivering papers to his cottage on Washburn Island over the years. He was read the sports section first. As a child, I was deeply in awe of knowing that a had met an NHL hockey player. I still have the Cleveland Barons t-shirt and hockey puck that Dave gave me. My sister, Susan, remembers Dave being her baseball coach, in Valentia, one year. She also remembers visiting with Dave at the 200-year anniversary dinner celebration for Valentia. She also remembers babysitting Ryan and Jennifer. My brother, Brad, enjoyed the roadside visits with Dave over the years getting caught up on community news. My dad, Harvey, was thrilled when Dave was inducted into the Lindasy and District Sports Hall of Fame in 2008. I also remember Dave coming over to the farm to help with haying one day. I think he lasted one load and decided that haying wasn't the workout that he needed. Dad (Harvey) also appreciated it when Dave updated him on when and where to watch Ryans' hockey games over the years. You will be fondly remembered, Dave. Your cottage neighbours, The Bowens”
