He was predeceased by: his son Henry Harmsma; his parents, Poppe and Iebeltje; and his siblings, Hendrik, Griet, Anne and Steintje.
He is survived by: his spouse Hinke (van der Wal); his children, Shirley Schaafsma (Wayne), Paul Harmsma (Maria), Evelyn Dullemond (Ron) and Rick Harmsma (Sylvia); his grandchildren, Tony Schaafsma (Lisa), Wendy DeJong (Carl), Dan Schaafsma (Katie), Tim Harmsma (Amy), Andrew Harmsma, Jason Harmsma (Melissa), Kevin Harmsma, Kristen Dullemond, Serena Harmsma, Ashley Van Andel (Dave), Dustin Harmsma, Stephanie Harmsma and Alyssa Harmsma; and his great grandchildren, Alyson, Megan, Tyler, Ben, Jamie, Grace, Jack, Mya, Brodie, Ethan, Kaitlyn, Caleb, Hunter, Scottie, Henry, Maeve, Luke, Hailey, Jordyn, Blake and Macie.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Ottawa Heart Institute, BGH Palliative Care or to Athens Christian Reformed Church will be gratefully acknowledged by the family.
