He was predeceased by: his wife Lois Downey; his child Lee (Susan) of Panmure; his parents, Elmer G. Cavanagh and Maude Cavanagh; and his brothers, Ron (Melba) and Les (Brenda).

He is survived by: his children, Lyle (Debbie) of Panmure, Ray (Kathy) of Panmure and Lisa Arthur (Hugh) of Dunrobin; and his siblings, Sheila England (Ross) of Calgary and Jack Cavanagh (Lynn) of Kinburn. He is also survived by his many nieces and nephews.
