He was predeceased by: his parents, Archie McAlpine and Jessie McAlpine (Cran); his sister Phyllis McAlpine; and his siblings-in-law, Ellen, Norma and John.

He is survived by: his siblings, Margaret and William Wilson; his wife Isobel Margaret; his children, Natalie Turner (Todd) of Halifax and Roland McAlpine (MaryAnn) of Glencoe; his grandchildren, Joshua, Jillian, Jennah, Jack and Brad; and his siblings-in-law, Garry Henry (Thornicroft), Kenneth Wilson (Thornicroft) and Elizabeth Thornicroft.

Due to COVID restrictions, visitation is limited to a specific number of guests.
