He is survived by: his spouse Ynolde Patricia; his children, Kelly Buist (Joshua) and Lesley Dottin (Patrick); and his granddaughters, Kendra, Laila and Erin. He is also survived by his friends and family in Canada and his nieces and nephews.

“Terribly sorry to learn of Tom Best's demise. May his soul rest in eternal peace. My heart felt condolences to the family and their friends. Tom was a very kind, gentle and humble person and an excellent teacher. Our friendship became even stronger when I taught his two clever daughters, Kelly and Lesley. Some of you might not know what an avid reader Tom was. One time, after his visit to the UK and Europe, I asked him what he had brought back in his two heavy suitcases. Books, he said! RIP.”
