He was predeceased by: his parents, Henk Schwering and Tina Schwering; his mother-in-law Irene; his brother-in-law George; his nephew Tyler; and his niece Hannah.

He is survived by: his wife Marianne Merrick; his siblings, Fred (Barbara), Robert (Frances), Leon (Geri), Paul (Sandra), Chris (Danielle), Tina and Mary Ann; his siblings-in-law, Lisa, Linda (Michael) and Richard (Susan); and his father-in-law Richard Sr.. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
