Margaret Lumina (Campeau) Fillion Obituary

It is with a very heavy heart that we announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother, sister, friend and confident Margaret Fillion at the age of 79 on December 9, 2021 in Yellowknife, NT. She came up to Yellowknife in 1976 with her husband Ed Fillion who worked at Giant Mine and has been in the North since.

Margaret should be remembered as a protector with a huge heart and open home. Due to her own experiences and understanding with alcohol and domestic abuse she was always acceptingly open to help people in the neighborhood or anyone she encountered for that matter. She loved company and always felt there was space available in her small home for anyone who was in need. All 4 of her kids brought friends home at different times that could use a break from their own home lives. This led to the start of her fostering career that spanned 30 year with so many wonderful kids staying with her; most were temporary but some stay for most or all of their young lives. She was a very proud single parent, foster parent and block parent for all her capable years. She also volunteered at the legion’s ladies auxiliary for many years and enjoyed helping in their kitchen for community events.

Marguerite Lumina Campeau aka Margaret Fillion was born on March 15, 1942 in Haileybury, Ontario to her late parents Joseph Raoul Campeau & Catherine Isabelle Kirkey. She is predeceased by her beloved sisters & brother Georgette Chitaroni, Madeline Cummings and Paul Campeau.

Survived by her beloved children Lorraine, Norman (Sara), Valerie & Darren (Josephine) & many foster kids.

Fondly remember by her grandchildren Natasha (Bud), Cory (Jenny), Bradley, Colton, Gabriel, Devon, Teneya, Jaylene, Isabelle and Darson

Her great grandchildren Carleigh, Brayden, Zain & Adrius

Her brother Roger (Deb) and her many nephews and niece (Campeau, Chitaroni, Fillion)

The Fillion family will welcome friends and family to a memorial & internment likely hosted in the spring. Due to Covid restrictions we have opted to wait until then to host something, but a live stream will be made available for anyone who cannot attend in person. We will post something again closer to the time of the event. Special thanks to Homecare for many years of exceptional and dedicated service.
