He was predeceased by: his parents, Murvell Gates and Nita Gates-Eddy; his stepfather Brent Eddy; his sister Dena Jodrey; and his pet Chammy.
He is survived by: his wife Anne; his pet Roxy Roller; his sisters, Elaine Fougere (Vander) and Trudy Sheehy (Steve); his brother-in-law Brad Jodrey (Karen); and his nieces and nephews, Aaron Fougere (Marianne Greene), Julien Fougere (Lauren MacIsaac), Melissa Sheehy Richard (Todd), Ryan Sheehy (Melissa) and Brandon Jodrey (Tara). He is also survived by great niece and several great nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Derrick can be made to the Nova Scotia SPCA or the Brain Tumor Foundation of Canada. (both websites linked under the "donations" tab above.).
