He was predeceased by: his parents, Aubrey Joseph and Ellen "Nellie" Wile (Pearl); his siblings, Vivian Voiculescu, Helen Hamilton, Aubrey, Howard "Bob" and Theodore "Bruin"; and his siblings-in-law, Harold Graham, Bud Hamilton, Clairie Redden and Ruby Wile.

He is survived by: his wife Mayme Ettinger; his children, Wanda (Tom), Verlie Wile (David Hawkins-Clarke), Kevin Wile and Tim Wile (Susan); his grandchildren, Andrew Sheehy (Kelly), Cristopher Sheehy, Monica Hamilton, Timothy, Colleen and Olivia Wile; his great grandchildren, Morgan Anne, Rowan Sheehy, Kirsten and Alex Lewis; his siblings, Roberta Graham, Ruth Redden, June Shea (Jimmy) and Joseph "Jimmy" Wile (Ruth); and his sisters-in-law, Eva Wile and Ann Wile. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was awarded the Founding Medal of the New Democratic Party of Canada and was a member of the Broadbent Foundation for the betterment of Canada.
