He was predeceased by: his parents, William Reid and Maggie Reid (Biggins); his sisters, Christina and Ina; and his wife Beverley Reid.
He is survived by: his children, Laurie (Elden) of Bridgewater and Scott (Connie) of Stonewall, Manitoba; his grandchildren, Chris (Cora), Meighen (Mat), Liam, Max and Dexter; and his great grandchildren, Maverick, Seth, Esmé, Jack and Madeleine.
The family moved to Winnipeg where James would later become department head and eventually be honoured and awarded the Professor Emeritus for his contributions to the field of botany and his work with blue stain fungi.
