He was predeceased by: his parents, Gottlieb Zimmerman and Maria Zimmerman (Lang); his sons, Kent and Neil; and his siblings, Viola, Lydia, Katie, Curly, Henry, Elmer, Isadore, Ed (Ruth), Reuben and Jack.

He is survived by: his wife Audrey; his sons, Mark (Lorraine) of Weymouth and Kirk (Megan) of Indiana, USA; his daughter-in-law Karen; his grandchildren, Trevor, Erin, Amy, Jonathan, Callie, Caleb, Kate, Aiden, Mia, Reid and Jenna; and his brothers, James (Shelia) of Alberta and Dwight (Pat) of Alberta. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Donations in Merle's memory may be made to the Maritime Christian College or the Alzheimer society.
