He was loved and cherished by many people including: his wife Janice Harrington (Harrington); his children, Emily (Michael Gerdau), Trista Freier (Christian) and Keelan (Katie Gi); his grandchildren, Kai and Ivy; his sisters, Susie Quackenbush (Ross), Sandie and Lisa; and his parents, Rodney Black and Norma Black (LeNeveu). He was also cherished by seven nieces and nephews.
