Jane (DeKam) Boehm Obituary

Of Truro, passed away December 11, 2023. Born in Sanborn, Iowa, Jane spent her early years in Edgerton, MN. Leaving behind their rural roots, the family later relocated to Holland, MI to access services for Jane's little sister, Nancy, born with Down's Syndrome.

Growing up fifth in a family of 12 children, Jane was the de facto caregiver to her younger siblings, who recall her nurturing ways. After graduation, Jane attended college and started work at a local hospital. During this time, Jane began dating a young Dutch immigrant named Henry Boehm.

They fell in love, married and started a life together, raising six children, living in Michigan, Ontario and Nova Scotia. Jane was a gifted, caregiver and teacher, and she gravitated toward helping others: working with the elderly and as a teacher's aid. A loving mom and granny, Jane was attentive, resourceful and skilled.

She sewed clothes for the whole family, was a talented baker and cook, and had a way of making every one feel valued. She never backed down from an argument. That stubborn streak helped her persevere through hard ship, including the loss of her son Mark in 1995, her beloved Henry in 2018, and her declining health in recent years.

A woman of great faith, Jane embraced life fully but was not afraid of death. Mourning her loss are her children, Stephen, Elizabeth (Gerald), David (Miyuki), Rachel (Peter), and Thomas (Chikako); her grandchildren, Charles, Ian, Emily, Mannfred, Asuka, Tomoya, Erin, Marissa, Annalies, and Andrew; and great-grandchildren, Elijah, Ruth, Ethan, Nathan, Elliot, Gemma, and Ella. Funeral: Saturday, January 13, 2024, at 11 a.m., John Calvin Christian Reformed Church, Truro.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to World Vision Canada.
