He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Vincent Armstrong and Margaret (McNeil); his wife Barbara (Cameron); his daughters, Rose Armstrong (Adam) and Andrea Higgins (Scott); his grandchildren, Joseph and Yamaya; and his siblings, Catherine Armstrong (Ralph), Shirley Sanford (Dowell), Sheila Armstrong (Wayne) and William Armstrong (Carolyn). He was also cherished by nieces and nephews.
He also canvassed donors for organizations such as Heart and Stroke Foundation and Multiple Sclerosis Society, among others.
