He was predeceased by: his parents, Arthur Hartlen and Frances Hartlen (Hobin); his former wife Helen Hartlen; his wife Jean Hartlen (Doyle); his siblings, Dorothy Sawler (Richard), Marie Slaunwhite (Art) and Charles Hartlen; and his brother-in-law Vince Sinyerd.

He is survived by: his sons, Arthur Hartlen (Betty) and Dwayne Hartlen (Debbie); his stepdaughters, Wanda Scott (Brian) and Cathy Coates (Glenn); his sister Noreen Sinyerd; his sister-in-law Carol Hartlen; his grandchildren, Scott (Jen), Glenn (Carrie) and Darcy (Amy); his stepgranddaughter Chelsey; and his great grandchildren, Jaden, Landen and Nicholas. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
