He was predeceased by: his grandparents, Austin, Doris Sutherland, Wilson and Myrtle Langille. He is survived by: his friend Gary Cameron; his fathers, Gerald Sutherland and Darrell Sutherland (Langille); his son Richard "Ricky" Sutherland; his siblings, Richard Sutherland and Tammie Heighton (Terry); his niece Emily Heighton; and his nephew Justin Heighton of River John. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Donations in his memory may be made to the Northumberland Fisheries Museum or the Lillian Fraser Memorial Hospital Foundation.
