He was predeceased by: his parents, James Oakley and Jemima Oakley (Howard); his daughter Faith Horne; and his siblings, Ellen Oakley, Wilfred "Bobby", Howard, Karl and Gerald Oakley.
He is survived by: his wife Jean (Dicks); his children, Valerie MacLennan (Alex), Vernon Oakley (Florence) and Edward "Eddie" Oakley (Cathy); his siblings, Clara Pace, Laurel Buckingham and Murray Oakley; and his son-in-law Albert Horne. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren.
