He was predeceased by: his parents, Andrew MacDonald and Nora MacDonald (Burke); his wife Alice (Heffernan); his sons, Andy and Glen; and his siblings, Anna Champion, Theresa MacDonald, Catherine Bungay, Evie MacLeod, Charlie, Nick, Jim and Joe.
He is survived by: his children, Dianne MacDonald (Alan Nathanson) and Paul (Glenda); his daughter-in-law Dale MacDonald; his grandchildren, Scott, Ainsley, Nadine, Drew, Cynthia, Bryan and Kayla; his great grandchildren, Holland, Jack, Hadley, Duggen, Elsie, Jayden, Jared, Ciana, Xander, Casey, Dylan and Arlen; and his siblings, Helen Gallant (Bucky) and John "Dicker" (Joanne). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to the Boys and Girls Club Cape Breton (Whitney Pier Boys and Girls Club).
