Doris Mason wrote a sympathy message

“To Debbie and all Steve's family: Beak was a true individual. His style ,grace, humour and big heart were some of the things that made him so magnetic and wonderful as a friend and co-worker. I'll always thank him for asking me to join the "Follies" and then the "Revue". His big laugh and pure enjoyment of life is what I'll remember about him, as well as support in creative projects. My heart goes out to you all. Here's to a life well lived. Love, Doris Mason”

Heather Rankin wrote a sympathy message

“Debbie and family, I am so sincerely sorry for your loss. I appreciated Stephen so much. His guidance and sense of humour during my time with the Cape Breton Summertime Revue, the Mabou Jig and the making of the first Rankin Family records was immeasurable. Although we lost touch over the years I have never forgotten his contribution to my endeavours as a young person finding my way in the entertainment business. May you find comfort at this difficult time. Godspeed, Heather Rankin”
