He is survived by: his siblings, Elaine MacDonald, Vesta Campbell (Mackey), Maritia Boutilier (Robert), Bonita Atchison and Michael (Kim); his wife Mary MacDonald (Blackwood); and his stepchildren, Justin, Jeremy and Christina. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Donations in memory of James may be made to Hospice Palliative Care of Cape Breton County.
