He was predeceased by: his parents, George Thompson and Mae Thompson (Bond); his wife Catherine (Collins); his sons, Michael and Gerald; his grandsons, Trevor and Christopher; his parents-in-law, Bernard and Margaret Collins; and his siblings, Jenny, Helen, Gladys, Francis, Ida, Alice, George, James and Peter.

He is survived by: his children, Jeanette, Cathy (Walter Rutherford), Margie Sydney, Gordie Dartmouth (Tina) and Darren Ottawa (Patricia); his grandchildren, Mark Rutherford Sydney, Matthew Dartmouth, Hannah (Graham), Michael and Emma Thompson; his great grandchild Alexander Ottawa; and his siblings, Marie Ranni, Josephine Watson, Allan and Charlie.

Memorials may be made to Palliative Care, Muscular Dystrophy, Cystic Fibrosis, or charity of choice.
