He was predeceased by: his mother Evie MacLeod (MacDonald); his grandparents, Andrew, Nora MacDonald (Burke), Lewis and Jenny MacLeod; his aunt Teresa MacDonald; and his nephew Dillon MacLeod.

He is survived by: his father Graham MacLeod; his sons, DJ Butler (Hannah) and Christopher Butler (Robyn); his brothers, Todd (Carolyn) and Scott (Denise); his grandchildren, Evelyn, Max and Luke; his niece Christine Phalen; his nephews, Michael and Connor MacLeod; and the mother of his children Brenda Butler.

Donations in memory of Darren may be made to a charity of one's choice.
