He was predeceased by: his mother Patricia Susan Oakes (Jardine); and his grandparents, Thomas H., Anastacia Oakes and Milton Jardine. He is survived by: his father Gerard Oakes; his daughter Kylie Oakes; his sister Vickie Lynn Groten; and his grandmother Theresa Jardine. He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

He was an organ donor, giving the gift of life through organ donation to many families in need around the province.
