He was predeceased by: his parents, Jack McGean and Viola McGean (Jessome); his wife Eunice (Morgan); and his siblings, Lawrence, Doug, Gordon, Jean Merritt, Shirley Devoe, Mary Dormiedy and Madonna Brown.
He is survived by: his sons, Brian, Wayne (Laurie), Kenneth, Darrin, David (Tanya), Keith and Sydney Mines; and his brothers, Bob (Jean) and Eddie (Lillian). He is also survived by his 11 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
Donations in Melvin's memory may be made to the Cape Breton Regional Palliative Care Unit.
