He was predeceased by: his parents, Everett Brown and Eunice Brown (Thompson); his siblings, Darrell (Joyce), Merlin, Glenda (Stan) and Beverley; and his brother-in-law Victor Wagner.

He is survived by: his wife Bessie (House); his children, Melvin Devoe (Christine), Geraldine (Kevin), Bras, Valerie (Ronnie) and Jimmy (Sherry); his sister Lila Wagner; and his brother-in-law Eugene White. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren.
