He was predeceased by: his parents, John Long and Annie Long; his former wife Ruth; his wife Claire Long; his stepdaughter Lori Power; his siblings, Margaret "Peg", Jean, Laura, Helen, Joseph and Mardie; and also, Shauna Stewart and Jacqueline Gregg.

He is survived by: his children, Donna Long (Einar Fiskerstrand), Norway, John Long (Denise) and Michael Long (Maureen); his stepson Greg Herrett (Wanda) of Springhill, NS; and his brother Clarence. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
