He was predeceased by: his parents, Earl Gilbert and Laura Gilbert (Shipley); his siblings, Vivian Smith, Doris Caulfield, Faye Livingstone, Hazel and Ross; his stepsiblings, Joyce Burke, Murray McCully, William and Gerald Baker; and his brothers-in-law, Ivan and Joseph Hahnen.
He is survived by: his wife Nellie Hahnen; his daughter Arlene MacDonald (Jim); his granddaughter Adrienne McCann (Patrick) of Halifax; his great grandchild Karson; his sister Shirley Sears (Hudson) of Truro, N. S; and his stepsiblings, Noreen Simons (Art), Linda Dunphy (Lee), Beverly Bowes, Sharon Campbell, Marion Varner, Don Baker (Jo), Marvin Baker (Marie), Eric Baker (Joan) and Jim Hahnen (Wilma). He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
