He was predeceased by: his parents, Lester O'Brien and Mary O'Brien (Lavers); his son Darrell; and his siblings, Olive Quinn, Audrey Redmond, Leslie, Kitchener and Keith.

He is survived by: his wife Eleanor; his children, Sandra Ripley (Amherst), Susan Mullin (Moncton) and Gerry O'Brien; and his brother Ralph O'Brien (Amherst). He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
