He was predeceased by: his parents, Frederick Burgess and Della Burgess (Fisher); his daughter Tracy Thorne; and his siblings, Kay Melanson, Keith Burgess and Wayne Burgess.

He is survived by: his children, Dave Burgess (Lenora Guptill) of Grand Manan, David Burgess of Ontario, Daniel Burgess of Ontario, Donnie MacDonald of Ontario and Patricia Burgess (Tim Baker) of Nova Scotia; and his siblings, Darlene Kantor (Frank) of Saskatchewan, Bill Burgess (Jean) of Saskatchewan, Curtis Burgess (Sharon) of Ontario, Kevin Burgess of Nova Scotia and Tom Burgess (Elta) of Havelock, NB. He is also survived by several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In his memory, donations to a charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family.
