Carmen Eldon Jollota Obituary
Age 81 of Sonora retired from life and his career of fish peddling, on May 31, 2017 in St. Mary's Memorial Hospital, Sherbrooke. Born in Sonora on June 30, 1935 he was a son of the late Frederick and Maude (Burns) Jollota. He met the late Judith Langley when she was a school teacher in Sonora, and they were married on July 24, 1954.
Carmen held a variety of occupations including school bus driver, school custodian, commercial salmon fisherman, and most notably, fish peddler. He did not wear a watch and was never in a hurry. He always took the time to stop to have a conversation and enjoyed interacting with his customers, friends and family in person and on the phone.
He will be remembered for his love of cats, Pepsi, peppermints and dining at local restaurants. He is survived by daughter, Shelley (Tony) Kaiser, grandsons, Andrew (Hillary) Kaiser, Devin (Hailey) Kaiser, Kelby (Gina) Kaiser and great-grandchildren, Gabriel and Greysen Kaiser, Ava MacDonald and his daughter Susanne (Dion) McGrath, grandson Logan McGrath, and her mother Joy Dort.
Joy provided love and support to Carmen allowing him to remain in his own home over the past few years. He is also survived by his sister, Sylvia Hubley, half-sister, Sherry (Daniel) Evong, sister-in law Katherine (Edmund) Keddy, half-sister-in-law, Sheila Boutilier, many nieces, nephews and cousins. Carmen was predeceased by his wife of 54 years Judith (Langley) in 2009, half-brother, Danny Boutilier, brother-in-law, Noble Hubley, half-brother-in-law, Barry Evong, step-father, Joseph Baglole, step-mother, Vivian Jollota, and niece, Bethany Keddy.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held Saturday from 6-9pm in G.W. Giffin Funeral Home, St. Mary's Chapel, Sherbrooke, from where funeral service will be held on Sunday at 2pm, with Rev. Kristin MacKenzie officiating. A private family interment will take place at a later date. Family flowers only please. Memorial donations may be made to St. Mary's Memorial Hospital, Sherbrooke.
Thanks to Jackie, Bobby, Foster and Dion who helped him out, allowing Carmen to continue working in his beloved fish peddling business, as well as the customers that supported him over the years. Special thanks to the staff at St. Mary's Memorial Hospital, Sherbrooke for their care, compassion and understanding over his last few days of life.
