She was predeceased by: her parents, Frederick Laing and Dorothy Laing (Ryan); her husband George "Herman" Gray; her son Byron Gray; and her siblings, Shirley Zloty and Kenneth Laing.

She is survived by: her daughters, Karen Doubleday (Cliff), Sabrina Drake (Jim) and Lisa Gray; her grandchildren, Kelly, Byron, Kimberley, Gage and Camryn; her great grandchildren, Brendan, Liam and Reign; and her siblings, Sheila Emmons and Frank Laing.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Society of Nova Scotia in memory of Joan.
