He was loved and cherished by many people including: his spouse Goldie (Johnson); his children, Thomas Canning of Alberta and Karen Trudy Steen; and his grandchildren, Joshua, Nicole, Kristian, Eric and Jessica. He was also cherished by numerous great-grandchildren.
Despite having Alzheimer's Disease he maintained his sense of humor, love of music, and often would be up on his feet for a polka.
