It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Madonna Whalen of North Sydney, Nova Scotia, who passed away on February 16, 2023, at the age of 91, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Leo Phalen and Euphemia Phalen (Robinson); her husband Kevin; her son Kevin; her sons-in-law, Everett MacIntosh and Clayton "Bud" Guy; and her siblings, Marie O'Neil, Julia Simpson, Eileen Forrest, Albert and Tommy Phalen.
She is survived by: her children, Maureen Guy, Richard Whalen (Grace), Vera Ruttle (Keith), Ann Whalen, Shaun Whalen and Denise Whalen (Eddie); her grandchildren, Kathleen Williams (Dave), Erinn Guy (Mitchell), Gillian Whalen (Mike), Brent (Melissa), Bryan Whalen (Alexandra), Adam, Mark Whalen (Kim), Hughie (Leeann), Dennis, Michael MacIntosh (Kathy), Jonathan Keigan (Christin), Kailin MacDonald (Cyril) and Brianna Murphy (Nick); her daughter-in-law Ann Whalen; her sisters, Leona Jardine, Jean Walker and Monica Phalen; her brother-in-law Joseph Whalen (Genevieve); and her pet Taz. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Joseph Church Improvement Fund, Bereaved Families of Cape Breton, Society for Treatment of Autism (NS) or a charity of choice.
