He was predeceased by: his parents, John Gordon Shaw and Rhoda Orella Paradis (Shaw). He is survived by: his wife Diane Shaw (Landry); his daughters, Kim Goodman (George) and Heather Johnston (Frank); his grandchildren, Frank, Eric Johnston and Miranda Goodman; and his caregiver Kaleigh.

John lived with Type 1 diabetes for over 50 years, donations in his memory would be appreciated to Diabetes Canada.
