He was predeceased by: his parents, Fred Cockcroft and Dora Cockcroft (Blackburn); his wife Winifred Mary "Freda" Cockcroft (Atkinson); his son William Cockcroft; his grandson Anthony Edwards; his great grandchild Michael Wilson; his daughter-in-law Darlene Cockcroft; and his siblings-in-law, Peggy Hampson, Rene Wilkinson, John Hampson, Don Wilkinson and Ron Notton.

He is survived by: his children, Janice Sangster (Aubrey), Judy Edwards and John Cockcroft (Meadowville); his grandchildren, Christine (Mike), Christopher (Ellen), Nicholas (Chantal), Samantha, Richard and Katie (Greg); his great grandchildren, Ben, Nathan, Gage, Charlee and Leslie; his sister Vera Wills (Jim); and his sister-in-law Dorothy Notton (Blackpool). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
