He was predeceased by: his grandparents, Lloyd, Lola Chisholm (Sangster), Clarence and Margaret MacDonald (Kirk); and his father-in-law Robert "Bob" MacLeod.

He is survived by: his parents, H. Graham MacDonald and Karen A. MacDonald (Chisholm); his wife Dawn; his children, Robert Graham MacDonald and Madelyn Bryanna MacDonald; his brother David MacDonald (Jenifer); his nieces and nephews, Cale, Josh, Matthew and Blair; his brother Steven MacDonald (Bernadette); his niece Lily; and his mother-in-law Zeana Hollis.
