He was predeceased by: his parents, Harold Hirtle and Lucy Hirtle (England); and his siblings, Clarence, Lester, Donald, William, Howard, Alton and Lois Penney.

He is survived by: his wife Betty; his daughters, Darlene Hirtle (Dale Gallagher), Greenfield Park and Sandra Zwicker (Burt); his grandchildren, Krista MacLean, Joel Zwicker (Alyssa), Meadowvale, Alicia Brisson (Joey) and Christopher Zwicker (Laura); his great grandchildren, Courtney, Jacob, Hans, Nikida, Leigha, Karli, Ainsley and Cyrus; his brother Carl Hyrtle (Alice); and his sister-in-law Dolly Gebhardt (Vernon) of Medicine Hat, AB..
