He was predeceased by: his parent Frederick Kenney; and his brother Fred. He is survived by: his parent Lenora Kenney; his wife Grace; his sons, Steven of Ponoka, AB, Darren (Jody) and Sylvan; his sister-in-law Grace Kenney; his brother Michael Kenney (Roberta) of Meadowvale; and his grandchildren, Nathan, Nicholas and Nash.

John was a blood donor, having made 100 donations.
