He was predeceased by: his parents, William Arthur and Martha Gartrell (Wilde Rose); his son Jonathon; his brothers, William and Fred; and his granddaughters, Julia Mado and Georgia Romick.

He is survived by: his wife Rosemarie; his daughters, Claire Blaikie of Woodstock, ON and Margaret Romick (Ryan); his stepchildren, Susan Cannon of Victoria, BC, Elizabeth Trenchard (Robert), Garry Cannon (Yesica) of Calgary, AB and Christopher Cannon (Jacquelyn); his sister Mary Sakamoto (Lawrie) of Bury, PQ; and his brother-in-law Frank Delmo (Sherrill). He is also survived by eleven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations made to the Northwest Ontario Sports Hall of Fame or the Adult and Teen Challenge of Thunder Bay would be appreciated by the family.
