He was predeceased by: his parents, Emery Shepard Smith and Doris Marguerite Smith (Stephens); his aunts and uncles, Elsie Blaine, Joyce Fralick, Carmie Stephens and Francis Stephens; and his father-in-law Loman Ayer.

He is survived by: his wife Linda Ruth Smith (Ayer); his son Emery Ethan Myles Smith; his sister Marjorie Ann Williams; his nephews, Sean Williams, Johnathon Williams and Timothy Williams; and his mother-in-law Mary Ayer (Hounsell). He is also survived by many friends and extended family.
