Marie Dorothy (Hebb) Young Obituary
89, of Lawrencetown passed away peacefully with family by her side on December 1st, 2023 in Twin Oaks Memorial Hospital.
Born December 15th 1933 in Beaconsfield, Annapolis County, Nova Scotia, she was the daughter of the late Bertram and Helen (Theriault) Hebb. From a young age she was always putting her family and others first, she taught in a one room schoolhouse in Parker's Cove after graduating high school. She then worked as a bank teller for Royal Bank in Bridgetown before meeting the love of her life, Russell, whom she married on August 18th, 1956. She then went on to work for Burma Propane in Annapolis Royal before her and Russell started their family and eventually moved to Dartmouth where they made lifelong friends and raised their 3 lovely children.
Marie's proudest accomplishment was being a devoted wife to Russell as well as a mother. More recently, she took on her most cherished role of being a loving Gigi to her 6 great grandchildren. She made everyone around her feel important, loved, and special. Up until the last few years, friends and family were lucky enough to get one of her famous homemade birthday cakes. Even when battling the many health problems, she faced, she always made sure a birthday cake was made regardless of how long it took to finish. She was an avid knitter and loved having visitors in her home, spending as much time as possible with those who stopped by. She always had a story or fun fact from the news that day that could make you stay 10 minutes or 2 hours longer.
When Marie wasn't at home taking care of her family, she could be found at the bowling alley with Russell, or the nearest hockey rink or motocross track being her grandchildren's number one fan at their sporting events. She also spoke often of how she loved dancing the night away with Russell at the Waverly Legion and camping every weekend with their close friends at their favourite campgrounds. Marie was fond of travelling with family, having joined her children and grandchildren on many entertaining trips. She enjoyed reminiscing and sharing funny stories about their adventures to Boston and Florida, as well as a memorable trip she took with Russell to Niagara Falls.
Marie is survived by her daughter, Lynda (Laurie) Cuvelier; sons, Jeffrey (Lisa) and Trevor (Shannon); grandchildren, Kyle (Jodi), Kody (Kelsey), Korey (Terralynn), Scottie (Lacy), Kelsey (Brandon), Brett, Hazen (Riley), Hazen's mother Karen Ruggles, as well as her pride and joy, her great grandchildren Karson, Kolton, Karter, Chloe, Kinsley and Parker. Marie is also survived by her brother, Leon (Terry) Hebb; sisters, Luella (Mike) Woods and Mary Helen (Stephen) Gallagher; Marie was predeceased by her husband, Russell; grandson, Brandon; brothers, Lemoine and Bertram Hebb and her sister, Jean Cranton.
The family would like to give a special thank you to all the staff at the Twin Oaks Memorial Hospital for their exceptional care the last three weeks before she passed. As well as Deanna, Joan and Ardina for all their care before she went into the hospital.
As per Marie's request, a funeral service will not be held. Donations in her memory can be made to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, Cerebral Palsy Nova Scotia or Diabetes Canada.
