He was predeceased by: his parents, Andrew McGowan and Phyllis McGowan (Lambert); his son Andrew; and his sister Dolores. He is survived by: his wife Susan; his children, Deborah (Andre), Toni-Lynn (Keith), Derek (Kristin), Taura (Darin), Suzette (Joe) and Anthony (Colleen); his grandchildren, Melissa, Courtney, Andrew, Lindsay, Maclean, Kaylee, Avery, Jessica, Natasha, Chelsey and Kayla; and his siblings, Gary (Pat) and Phyllis (Murray).

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation and the Lung Association of Nova Scotia.
