He was predeceased by: his parents, Martinus Spithoven and Jannie Spithoven (Gladpootjes); and his sisters, Bep van der Wiel and Eda van Dam. He is survived by: his wife Hendrina Maria Spithoven; his children, Roland Spithoven, Astrid Wade (David), Yolanda Spithoven, Heidi MacLean (Paul) and Ingrid Prowse (Matt); his grandchildren, Taylor Cook, Lance Wade (Sarah), Misty Wade Hovey (Tristan), Brandon MacLean, Sydney MacLean, Brennan Prowse and Brittany Aiken (Joel); his great grandchildren, Hudson, Hunter Hovey, Tucker Cook, Alaura, Adelynn Wade, Billie, Posie and Aiken; and his nephew Rick van der Wiel (Monique van Gelooven) of Holland.
