Lois Ann Ettinger Obituary

Ettinger, Lois Ann, July 7, 2024, ten days before her 73rd birthday , our mother left our physical world that was immersed with complications from Parkinsons disease and embraced her well deserved peace in the spirit world.
Lois was born and raised "over home", in Upper Kennetcook, by her parents Mildred (Turple) and Dow O'Toole. Upon completion of school, she began her adult life in Elmsdale and started a family, where she raised her two children, Kendelle Blois and Ryan Blois. She was recognized for her amazing cooking, her beautiful gardens, her door always being open to the abundance of kids that flocked to her home, and her selflessness. Her home always being full of love, laughter, and empathy never forgetting her consistent " I love ya" before you left her home or hung up the phone.
Once her children were grown, she relocated to Truro and graduated the ECE program with honours. Unfortunately, her path to teaching was cut short when Parkinsons's and life circumstances chose another path for her. Therefore, Mom did what Mom does best, she focused on her family. The competitive side of mom loved Bingo night with her sisters (which she won quite frequently) and Skipbo with her grandkids. Her passion for photography, (although she hated having her own picture taken) captured the best moments of others through her lens. She diligently made jam with her grandchildren and myself for as long as she could, ensuring we knew how to do it just like her. Thrift shopping days were our moms favourite, and most of all, she took pride making memories with the people she loved the most making every moment count, instilling in us the best of her.
In her later years, her life path took an unfortunate turn that sadly left her life that was once filled with choices, love, laughter and people, and replaced with uncontrolled decisions, seclusion, and unhappiness. Thankfully our mother is no longer suffering. She followed in her own mother's footsteps by recently leaving me one last memory, when I spoke my last words to my mother, as she reached for me and heard the words she needed to hear, my mother said her final " I love you too" to me.
Besides my brother and myself, my mom is survived by my 5 children; Kaitie Stevens (Matt), Quinten Blois (Rhiannon), Kelesy Blois, Jase and Jaici Syliboy who were the soul of her existence .
Her sisters; Lori Smith (Rob), Carol Tufts (Skip), Crystal Northrup (Derrick). Her brothers; Leslie Ettinger (Karen) and Ellis O'Toole whom mom had an unbreakable individual bond with each of them. Although mom was the oldest she was always " little big sis" and mom wore that title with the biggest smile.
5 great grandchildren; Tait, Sawyer, Rori, Sylvie and Matthew.
Besides her parents, she is predeceased by her birth father Vincent Ettinger, and her sister Donna.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Third Place Transition House or the IWK.
As per my mothers wishes, we will be welcoming friends and family Wednesday July 17th , my mother's birthday, at 41 Village Line Avenue Truro from 2pm until 4pm, where we will celebrate my mom's life as she once loved it.
To know our mom is no longer suffering from pain, from torment, or from loneliness, but is embraced in the spirit world where she is free , brings calm to the sadness of living the life our mother gave us, to continue our life path without her.
"Behind all your stories is always your mother's story, because hers is where ours began"
