He was predeceased by: his parents, Teresa Gillis (MacDonald) and Angus Gillis; his sister Anne MacPherson (Billy); his nephew Bradley MacNeil; his sister-in-law Florence Burton; and his parents-in-law, Rose and Arthur Burton.

He is survived by: his wife Joan (Burton); his daughters, Gloria Gillis of Inverness and Natalie Gillis (Adam) of Inverness; his grandchildren, Mia, Ronnie and Kyle MacDougall; and his siblings, Wayne of Inverness, Judy MacNeil (Lawrence) of Inverness, Sudbury of Inverness, Glen of Inverness, Garson of Inverness, Darlene MacNeil (David) of Inverness, Ellen White (Brent) of Inverness, Evangeline Gillis of Inverness and Elizabeth Rorrison (Wendall) of Inverness. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
